Rochester wakes from its winter slumber. I am barely keeping up with monthly stories, partly because there has been not much news to report. We have been taking advantage of the warmer weather to travel to the Cities more often (weekly to fortnightly). Planning is well advanced for a (triumphant?) return to Australia in July. There's still a lot to be done: sell the house, cars and furniture, move personal effects (a lot is accumulated over 4 years!) and terminate our various accounts, especially utilities and services. We barely begun to think about the administrative arrangements to take care of after we return, such as health insurance, childcare ... This month I travel to Chicago for the American Academy of Neurology annual meeting, and next month I return to Brisbane, briefly, for the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists annual meeting. It's going to be tough to get all my research work wrapped up before I leave in July (and in fact, it won't be entirely wrapped up, as I'm still involved in projects only just commenced), but it's a good motivator to get as many things as possible completed now. Oscar's third birthday is just around the corner. He's got a noticeable American accent now, but I'm confident that will get beaten out of him soon after he lands in Australia. He's almost mastered reading his numbers, but is still showing no interest in toilet training. |
